Post 5 : Changes to my study program
Hi everyone! Today I am going to talk to you about my career, specifically about the study plan and my opinion about it. Now, I am in my fourth year of sociology at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Chile. I really like the career but if there are things that I would like to change to the program. For example, we have many theoretical branches like "Contemporary Sociological Theories", "Sociological Theories of Modern Society", "Classical Sociological Theory" and more. But the branches of more practical subjects are few and they are just beginning the third year of the career. In addition, in the theoretical branches, very old theories are often seen that do not ground themselves to the current problems of society. Sometimes the things that are studied in the program cannot be taken to the present and that makes it difficult for the work that comes after leaving the career. Also, being so theoretical, the career is very academic. The field of work that has the most opportunities is academic and that limits many opportunities, because to be an academic you have to have many studies and diplomas. To be an academic you need many contacts since carrying out research is very expensive. In addition, newer topics such as culture, art or gender are just beginning to be part of the curriculum, but still seem very few. I would like the program to be able to change those things to train more integrated professionals.
That's all, thank you very much for reading!
